| WITH Douglas Fairbanks in "The Gaucho," Lupe Velez burst into
public favor like a skyrocket. But for years previous to this she appeared
in musical comedies both in the United States and in her native Mexico.
Her mother was an opera singer and her father a colonel in the Mexican army.
She has black hair, dark brown eyes, is 5 feet 2, and weighs 112. Lupe was
born in San Luis Potosi, a suburb of Mexico City, July 18, 1909, and was
educated in a convent. The family name was Villabalos. |
