| THE slender, weepy half of this famous team, Stan Laurel, was born in Ulverston
Lanes, England, in 1895. Stan went on the stage in boyhood, and came to
America as Chaplin's understudy in "A Night in an English Music Hall."
Entering pictures in 1920, he did not become famous until teamed with Oliver
"Babe" Hardy, the pudgy member. Hardy was born in Atlanta, Georgia,
in 1892. Educated for the bar he soon turned to the stage, and trouped in
minstrels and vaudeville before turning to the films in 1913. |
