From Stars of the Photoplay (1930)

REX BELL was picked from several hundred aspirants when Fox was in need of new performers, one of a new Western star. He had done small bits in pictures under his own name, George Beldam. Although born in Chicago, Ill., October 16, 1905, Rex spent most of his life on Western cattle ranches. He achieved distinction as a crack shot with rifle and pistols. He won many trophies by his skill in the saddle. He is 6 feet tall, weight 175, and has blond hair and blue eyes. With the advent of the talkies, he deserted Westerns for straight roles.
